Town of Middletown

The Town of Middletown’s founding dates to 1861, and for most of the town’s history it was known as a small quaint place in southern New Castle County. However, in recent decades that identity has changed significantly. The town has grown from just over 3,800 people in 1990 to an estimated population of just over 23,000 in 2020. Middletown is now the fourth largest municipality in the state of Delaware in terms of population, trailing only Wilmington, Dover, and Newark. The town has also grown a very healthy employment base and has become a regional center for commerce in the southern New Castle County area. Currently, Middletown is almost completely built-out, with very little open space or available land for new development. Despite these constraints, Middletown is interested in managed growth in the near future, both through limited annexation and expansion and through infill development and redeveloping properties within the current town boundaries.

The Appoquinimink School District

The Appoquinimink School District, located in southern New Castle County, Delaware, serves more than 12,000 students in grades PK-12. At Appoquinimink, students, parents, educators, and the community share a common vision about high achievement, a fact which has helped our students earn one of the best academic records in the state.

As Delaware's fastest-growing school system, we've learned to thrive on change. Since 2000, Appoquinimink has opened fourteen new schools, finished additions at seven other buildings, and completed an aggressive schedule of renovations designed to support 21st century learning.

St. Anne's Episcopal School prepares students for secondary education and lifelong learning. Slim’s Sports Complex

Michael A. Duncan aka “Slim” was born June 8, 1979. From a very young age, Slim showed great potential in athletics and spent almost every waking moment playing sports. In 1991, Slim was part of the Newark American Little League team that was ONE game away from playing in the Little League World Series [local UD grad and MLB player Kevin Mench was also on that team]. Slim went on to play baseball for Glasgow High and then for Del Tech Georgetown campus in college. In 1996, Slim was in a very serious motorcycle accident that changed the course of his life. While he was able to recover physically to play sports, he required over 30 surgeries to repair his body during the rest of his life.

Middletown Chamber of Commerce

The Middletown Area Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to promoting business and enhancing the quality of life in the Southern New Castle County area. Chamber members take leading roles in important community and business programs, working to enhance and preserve the special life-style that is unique to Middletown, Odessa, and Townsend (MOT) communities.  We are actively involved in fostering economic development and community spirit for the MOT, Delmarva region and surrounding areas.
